US Canada pavilion was a big hit at the Airport Show 2014

US Canada pavilion was a big hit at the Airport Show 2014

Utilizing a bigger space to display a wider range of new technologies and solutions, key aviation industry players from the US and Canada will reach out to the regional buyers through a joint pavilion, for the second consecutive year, at the 15th edition of Airport Show to be held in Dubai from May 10 to 12.

Reed Exhibitions Middle East, organisers of Airport Show, is confident about recording substantial growth in terms of exhibitors and exhibition space at the US-Canada Pavilion at the 2015 edition.
The 93 square metres pavilion at the 2014 edition and had six companies. For the 2015 edition, the organisers are hopeful to almost double this in terms of size and number of companies.

The Middle East region continues to be the focus of attention of the global aviation industry given its massive size of investments in airports expansion which according to CAPA’s Airport Construction and CapEx database amounts to nearly $60bn. According to IATA, $40bn airport investments are in the GCC states alone, with the UAE taking the top slot.
Daniyal Qureshi, Group Exhibition Director, Reed Exhibitions Middle East, said We are very happy to have a stronger participation from US and Canadian companies under the joint pavilion. The growth reflects strong bilateral business relations between the two countries, especially in the aviation domain. The region is looking for the latest technologies to meet its aviation development programmes and these companies offer cutting edge technologies and solutions, which we are pleased will be displayed at the region’s leading aviation B2B platform, the Airport Show.

Lindsay Hoto, Marketing Manager, Searidge Technologies, said: “The Pavillion has added value by providing us with a larger presence, networking opportunities and a prime position on the show floor. The dedication of the organizers has brought quality attendees to the show, assisting us to reinforce existing partnerships and identify new opportunities within the industry.”
Searidge has been participating at the Airport Show since 2008, but moved to the country pavilion in 2014 with an 18 square metre stand. We are looking forward to the Airport Show 2015 where we will showcase our innovative surface management solutions for airports through a 18 square metre stand,” Lindsay said.
Dieter Pade, Vice President, International Sales, Nilfisk-Advance Technologies, another repeat exhibitor, said: “The Airport show has provided Nilfisk Advance/Cyclone Technology the opportunity to meet face to face with new and existing customers. In addition, the Show has provided us an ideal forum to introduce the industry to a new rubber and paint removal technology, offering unbeaten savings to the industry. We have seen an increase in sales from the 2014 show and expect more of the same next year.

Other pavilion exhibitors include Aventura Technologies, global experts in security solutions, and Hi-Lite Global, an industry leader in runway rubber removal technologies. Earlier this year, the US Census Bureau’s Foreign Trade Division released data highlighting the UAE as the top US export destination in the entire Middle East North Africa (MENA) region for the fifth year in a row, sharing a record $26.9bn in trade in 2013, 8.5% over 2012. As the UAE further diversifies its economy, trade between the two countries is expected to grow and the UAE will remain an ideal economic partner for U.S.-based businesses looking to accelerate investments in the region.
The world’s top-league B2B event for the airports industry will take place at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre (DICEC) under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of Dubai Civil Aviation Authority (DCAA), Chairman of Dubai Airports and Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates Airline and Group.
The show is supported by DCAA, Dubai Airports and Dubai Aviation Engineering Projects (DAEP) among others. Co-located with the Show will be the 3rd edition of Global Airport Leaders’ Forum (GALF) and the second edition of Travel Catering Expo (TCE). Airport Show 2014 attracted over 6500 visitors from 83 countries, generating substantial business for the 225 exhibitors from 35 countries.

Sky Wings Aviation Academy’s Sherry Cooper is Canada’s best Flight instructor bar none

Sky Wings Aviation Academy’s Sherry Cooper is Canada’s best Flight instructor bar none

Last week in Vancouver she received the David Charles Abramson Memorial (DCAM) Flight Instructor Safety Award.
Awarded in honour of the late David Charles Abramson, the award recognizes at the highest national level the role flight training specialists play in making the business of flying safer.

I am very excited to be chosen as this year’s recipient of the Abramson award, said Cooper, who is the co owner of Springbrook’s Sky Wings Aviation. It is a validation of my life in Aviation, my philosophy of education and is easily the pinnacle of my career.

In addition to the awards ceremony in Vancouver, Cooper will also be in attendance in Ottawa during the spring to see her name on the trophy, which is held in the Canadian Aviation and Space Museum.

As a testament to her dedication to the Aviation education industry, Cooper has logged more than 15,000 hours of flight time in single engine, multi engine, complex single, tail wheel and technically advanced aircraft.
As a Flight instructor, she has 13,000 hours of Instruction time and has personally mentored more than 2,000 Pilots, many of whom have gone on to become Flight instructors as well. She has instructed at Red Deer College in the aviation program as well as representing the industry in regional affairs.

I believe being a Flight instructor embodies each of us taking responsibility and recognizing that being effective and successful is about commitment,Wrote Cooper in a letter to the DCAM.I am most successful when a student becomes their own instructor. Living and teaching a safety culture takes perseverance and dedication to accepting nothing less than our best.

Along with winning the DCAM award, Cooper will also receive a crystal eagle to display at Sky Wings, a special aviation watch, scholarships to national training events and national recognition in front of her peers.
Having being part of the aviation industry since 1988, it’s great to be recognized for my efforts to become the best instructor I can be,said Cooper. With worldwide demand for pilots rising, this will only increase the profile of flight instruction in Central Alberta and attract more of an international student base.

Cooper, in addition to her career at Sky Wings Aviation, is also a public school trustee with the Chinook’s Edge School Division, co-chair of the Red Deer College Affair of the Arts, and president of the Red Deer Airshow Association, in addition to being part of other boards and committees. Chorus Aviation says damaged plane will return to service if it can be repaired

Chorus Aviation says damaged plane will return to service if it can be repaired

A Bombardier Q400 plane that sustained heavy damage during an Air Canada Express emergency landing in Edmonton last week will go back into service if it can be repaired, Chorus Aviation said Thursday.

The plane’s landing gear collapsed shortly after landing at Edmonton International Airport, causing a propeller blade to pierce a window and the surrounding fuselage. Four people were injured but all 71 passengers and four crew survived.

Halifax based Chorus, which operated the Flight as an Air Canada regional partner, said it has not determined whether the two engine Aircraft can be fixed or if it must scrapped.

The extent of the damage is still being established, CEO Joseph Randell said Thursday during a conference call about the company’s third quarter results.

He said an insurance adjuster has been assigned to the case.

The Q400 turboprop took off from the Calgary airport on Nov. 7 on its way to Grande Prairie, Alta. but was diverted to Edmonton after the pilot reported that the plane had blown a tire.

The Flight was diverted to Edmonton because officials felt conditions for a landing were safer there.
I deeply regret the stress our passengers experienced, Randell told analysts.

He said it could take some time before the Transportation Safety Board completes its investigation. Chorus is also conducting its own Investigation.

Air Canada Express Flight 8481 Crash Landing

Air Canada Express Flight 8481 Crash Landing

An Air Canada passenger was injured last week after a plane propeller broke off and sliced through the cabin, striking her on the head

Christina Kurylo was one of 71 people, including four crew, on board Air Canada Express Flight 8481 from Calgary which was forced to make an emergency landing on Thursday evening.

Ms Kurylo was sitting in a window seat as the plane hit the runway and the right side propeller snapped off, becoming lodged in the fuselage.

The plane, a twin engine Bombardier Q400, had left Calgary bound for Grande Prairie, Alta, around 348 miles away, according to Canadian newspaper The Globe.
All of the sudden, something came crashing through the window and I got hit in the head, Ms Kurylo said in an interview following the incident. I’m lucky it wasn’t worse, she added, while crediting the passenger sitting beside her with helping her get off the plane.

French President Francois Hollande offers support after attacks on Canadian soil

French President Francois Hollande offers support after attacks on Canadian soil

French President Francois Hollande took a moment to touch on recent tragedies on Canadian soil before he and his world power counterpart got down to business in Banff Sunday.

There have also been tragic acts here and I would like to extend to you, dear Stephen, the full friendship of France in these circumstances. In other moments, not so far in the past, we were also touched by such dramatic acts, Hollande told Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper in front of assembled media.

He was speaking of the brazen slaughter of two soldiers, Cpl. Nathan Cirillo in Ottawa and Warrant Officer Patrice Vincent near Montreal.

Sunday, Banff National Park was the scenic host for talk on serious issues between Harper and Hollande.

Harper said it marked the first visit by a president of France to Canada’s west.
We are greatly honoured by the visit, Harper said.
But also it is an important visit because for Canada, France is one of our most important relationships in the world.

It is a country with which we’ve had important International, cultural and economic links literally for centuries, and we continue to work Francois and I  very closely together.

Hollande likewise called the state visit an honour.

For many French businesses this is a dynamic region where we are helping provide the best technologies that we have mastered,Hollande said.

Hollande said the two world leaders would discuss several recent issues of mutual apprehension.

Notably in Syria, Iraq and Ukraine. I know how important that subject is in Canada. To those great challenges I add climate change. We have decided to act together for the benefit of our countries and the planet,Hollande said.
